Prague Airport: even a 2-liter bottle will pass through security checks
Sdílet
From 1 October 2025, travelling through Prague Airport just got easier – at least if you’re flying within the Schengen Area from Terminal 2. Passengers may now carry one container of liquid larger than 100 ml, up to 2 litres per person, in addition to the usual 1-litre plastic bag of small bottles. In practice, that means your two-litre water bottle will pass security, as well as larger packs of cosmetics or food items. The change is possible thanks to new CT scanners, which can check the contents of bags in much greater detail.
However, this is not a blanket change for the whole airport. If you’re flying from Terminal 1 (non-Schengen flights), the old rules still apply: liquids are limited to 100 ml containers placed in one 1-litre plastic bag. Larger bottles are not allowed there. So for now, the new 2-litre allowance is strictly for Terminal 2, Schengen flights only.
Another bonus for Terminal 2: at security lanes with CT scanners you no longer need to remove electronics or liquids from your hand luggage. At some checkpoints that still use standard X-rays, staff may ask you to take out electronics or liquids, even though the 2-litre rule still applies. Always follow the on-site instructions.
Practical packing tip: If you’re flying within Schengen from Terminal 2, you can bring one larger container (up to 2 l)plus your standard 1-litre bag with small travel bottles. Usual exceptions remain in place for baby food, special dietary liquids and medicines. But keep in mind that rules at other airports may differ depending on whether they already use CT scanners. On your return or at a transfer airport, security staff may still confiscate larger bottles if local rules haven’t changed yet.
Why now? During 2025, Prague Airport installed six CT scanners at Terminal 2 (with two more to follow). After recertification over the summer, these devices enabled the relaxation of liquid limits while keeping security standards high. Terminal 1 will eventually be modernised as well, but for the time being, the rules differ depending on which terminal you depart from.
In short for travellers:
-
Schengen flights (Terminal 2): you may carry one large container up to 2 l + your 1-litre bag of small bottles. On CT lanes, no need to unpack electronics.
-
Non-Schengen flights (Terminal 1): the old 100 ml rule still applies.
-
Transfers/returns: check the rules at other airports, which may not yet allow larger bottles.
When in doubt, check the latest guidance on the Prague Airport website before you fly.
